However, the Cook County Courts have put a pause on eviction cases and the Sheriff will not remove people from their homes until April 30th, at the earliest. If you have a court date in an eviction case that was originally scheduled since March 17th it will be automatically continued until at least May 18th. A: Talk to your landlord! Everyone is going through this and feeling the pain of Coronavirus’s effects. It’s best to talk with your landlord about how you can keep renting and avoid an eviction. Also, there may be some rental assistance available for those that qualify.

Q: I need my landlord to make repairs to my unit but I’m concerned about them coming to my unit because of Coronavirus. What can I do?

A: You can demand that your landlord make repairs, but it’s up to you to decide if that’s worth the risk of having your landlord or their workers come into your home during this public health emergency. If you do ask for repairs, try to take any necessary steps to keep distance and sanitize surfaces to keep yourself safe.
